WHAT HAVE WE BEEN DOING?
PROTECTION
Protection in Margallah Hills National Park involves various measures aimed at preserving its natural resources, wildlife, and ecological balance.
FIRE CONTROL MANAGEMENT PLAN
During the fire season observed in Margallah Hills National Park from April to June, IWMB implements a fire management plan to ensure effective protection. The IWMB assigns staff members to different areas of the park for regular patrolling during the fire season. Day and night patrols help maintain constant vigilance and early detection of fire incidents.
GRAZING
The Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) takes a firm stance against livestock grazing in Margallah Hills National Park, considering it an illegal activity. Livestock grazing can have detrimental effects on the parks ecosystems and biodiversity.
INVASIVE REMOVAL
Invasive plant species, such as Paper Mulberry, Lantana, Parthenium, and others, can pose a significant threat to native plants and ecosystems in Margalla Hills National Park. The staff of the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) plays an important role in removing these invasive species to preserve the parks biodiversity. Strategies may include manual removal or mechanical methods (such as cutting or uprooting), in accordance with established guidelines and best practices.
RAID & RESCUE
The Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) is dedicated to safeguarding wildlife and its habitats in the region. As part of our conservation efforts, we conduct regular raids to combat illegal wood extraction and the sale or purchase of wild animals or products derived from wildlife.
WOOD CUTTING:
Wood cutting in Margallah Hills National Park can indeed have serious impacts on nature and the wildlife that inhabits the area. Trees play a crucial role in maintaining soil stability, preventing erosion, regulating water cycles, and providing habitat for numerous species. To address the issue of wood cutting, the IWMB is undertaking several measures.
HUNTING & POACHING
As a protected area, the park is home to various species of flora and fauna, including rare and endangered species. Strict enforcement of law has been effective in controlling it in recent years.
